Do's

  • Loss or theft of any important travel related documents may be reported to the nearest Government of Assam Tourist Office / Police Station / Government of India Tourist Office etc
  • For any emergency medical assistance contact hotel or accredited hospital / nursing homes or just CALL 108
  • It is recommended that tourists follow local tradition / custom guidelines while visiting religious places
  • Money exchange facilities are available in select banks like Standard Chartered Bank (Ambari branch, Guwahati) and State Bank of India (Panbazar branch, Guwahati). Touts are best avoided
  • During summers light cotton clothes and during winters light to medium woolen clothes are advisable
  • While purchasing packaged drinking water look for the ISI mark. This is a government endorsed quality seal

Don'ts

  • Refuse food / drinks offered by unknown people
  • Foreign tourists are not allowed to take Indian Currency back home as export of the same is strictly banned

Topography and Climate

The climate of Assam is marked by high humidity. The state has two main seasons- winter season and rainy season. Monsoon begins from mid-June onwards and continues up to September. Winter becomes evident from October onwards and carries up to February.

Temperature :-
In summer, temperature varies between 18°C and 35°C and in winter it ranges from 7°C to 26°C.

Best time to visit :-
The best time to visit Assam is from October to April.

Important Information

Entry formalities-

  • No permit is required by domestic as well as foreign tourists to visit Assam. However, foreign tourists must have an Indian Visa.
  • Assam is well connected by air, road and rail. There are a good number of hotels/guest-houses and circuit houses providing comfortable accommodation that suit all budgets.
  • Guwahati too is well connected with the rest of the country. Even towns like Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Jorhat, Silchar and Lilabari (North Lakhimpur) have airports.
